There's always a lot of things happening in the City of Danbury and every week the Mayor fills us in on what's going on.

This week, Mayor Joe Cavo talks about the latest COVID-19 numbers in Danbury, city taxes, the new Danbury train hub and his go-to place for the best margarita in town.

Budget time is coming up, I see New Milford may have a tax cut for the second year in a row, how about Danbury tax payers, any idea what's in store for them?

"It's still a little too early to tell, we're still working on the numbers trying to come up with the best budget we can. It would be my goal and dream to see us with a zero tax increase this year, and I've asked our finance director to try and really get us to that point. I don't think that people are in the capacity to sustain tax increases right now. There's a lot of people unemployed, most are COVID related, so I want to just be mindful of that as we go through this budget year. We're not going to put anymore strain on people who are already stressed out."

I understand your in some type of introductory meetings with officials regarding this new train hub that may be coming to Danbury?

"That's right, we got a call last week and we're going to schedule a Zoom meeting later this week with some of the Putnam officials. It's basically a meet and greet to see where we are in this project and what was already laid down prior to my coming into office, and where we see things going from here. I would love to see this happen, I think that having a train that would go directly from Danbury to Grand Central Station would be fantastic for not only our downtown, that area would be totally changed by this, plus peoples ability to commute right into New York City."

Monday was National Margarita Day, now I know last week you wouldn't commit to just one pizza place as your favorite, but what about a good margarita? Where would your go-to place be in Danbury?

"Well you know you're putting me on the spot again, but I don't drink alcohol and so I don't have a favorite spot for margaritas, but I saw your recent article and there are quite a few places you highlighted in Danbury."

I happen to know the First Lady (Liz) likes to pound them back.

"You're going to get me in trouble here, but I don't think margaritas are her favorite. She prefers red wine as her primary drink. I don't think I've ever seen her drink a margarita. You know what, some night we'll have to go out with you and Mrs. Trotta and have to hit some of those spots, and try a few margaritas."

You know I'm down for that Joe, and if we're going out for margaritas, I want to be with the Mayor because that can only mean free drinks.

"There's nothing free in life Bill, nothing is free."
