A Danbury man lost his life early yesterday (November 16) when he was involved in an accident with a dump truck and another vehicle.

New York State Police confirm that 54-year-old Jon Slater of Danbury was traveling in the northbound lane of Interstate-684 just south of exit 9W in Southeast, New York around 12:30 AM Wednesday night / Thursday Morning when a dump truck merged onto 684 from the median. That's when officers say that Slater struck the back of the dump truck, which sent him into another lane, striking another car. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision and transported to Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel, New York.

Two northbound lanes of Interstate 684 were initially closed following the crash and reopened before 7:00 AM. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Collision Reconstruction Unit are still putting together the details of the accident. This is a developing story and we'll be sure keep you updated as we receive more details.
