Danbury’s High School Football Coach Has Resigned
After three seasons as Head Coach of the Danbury Hatters, Alex Trasacco resigned his position yesterday following another disappointing season.
After serving two seasons as an assistant with the Hatters, Trasacco took over the Hatters head coaching job in 2015 on an interim basis when then Head Coach, Mark Ecke, left the school after just one season to take a teaching job in Bridgeport. Trasacco was officially installed as the head coach in February of 2016.
According to newstimes.com, prior coming to Danbury, Trasacco coached at Hillhouse, Hyde, East Haven and Wilbur Cross high schools, as well as at Western Connecticut State and Southern Connecticut State. He was also part of state championship teams at Hyde and Wilbur Cross.
Over the past three seasons in Danbury, Trasacco compiled a record of 4 wins and 25 loses, including a 1-9 record this season.
Athletic Director Chip Salvestrini told the newstimes.com it was Trasacco's decision to leave the team:
I am sorry to see him go, he has a tremendous work ethic, and he’s immensely dedicated to the kids. But we’re going through some really hard times. We’re having some problems with numbers, and it’s just been a tough, tough haul. He’s a very proud person, and we didn’t get the results, unfortunately, he felt it was time to put a little change in his life.
Trasacco said stepping down was something he was thinking about since around Thanksgiving. He also told the newstimes.com that it was basically a personal decision.
There’s just a lot of stuff going on right now on the personal end, you spend so much time and effort in the summers and all, and you forget about your own part of the deal. My oldest son is coaching now down at Southern Connecticut State University, and I didn’t get a chance to see him. My other two sons are playing in college.
So who's the next Head Football Coach going to be at DHS? Athletic Director Chip Salvestrini said it will be someone who's already teaching at the high school — someone who's already in the building, so stay tuned.
