A late afternoon fire on Labor Day caused damage to a Danbury auto body shop and had Danbury firefighters working overtime for over two and a half hours.

The fire was reported shortly after 5:00 PM on Labor day when Danbury police received a burglar alarm at 50 Shelter Rock Road. When they arrived, the first responders noticed smoke coming from the building and quickly alerted the Danbury Fire Department.

According to the Danbury FD's press release, units were alerted to the incident and upon arrival confirmed heavy black smoke billowing from the commercial building that is the home of C and S Auto Truck and Repair. A second alarm was struck, bringing in additional resources due to the size and occupancy of the building.

Fire units gained access to the building and quickly knocked down the fire using multiple hand-lines. Heavy smoke and carbon monoxide were throughout the entire building requiring additional time to ventilate the structure. Eversource CT was also requested to the scene to secure the power and gas feeds to the building.

The Danbury Fire Marshal’s Office was on scene and is handling the investigation which, at this time, is deemed undetermined and under investigation. Danbury EMS crews and the Danbury Police Department were also on the scene.

Fortunately, there was no one in the building at the time of the fire due to the Holiday, and no injuries were reported. It's not known at this time how much damage the building suffered and how many vehicles inside the garage were damaged.
