Danbury Animal Shelter Decides to Close Down, City Drops Lawsuit

With a lawsuit pending, the Tails of Courage animal shelter has decided to shut down.

According to a story on ctinsider.com, Danbury has decided to drop their lawsuit against Tails of Courage in exchange for the animal shelter giving up their shelter permits.

Ten months ago, the city filed a lawsuit in Danbury Superior Court claiming that Tails of Courage stayed open after they were cited for various city violations, a cease-and-desist order, and animal cruelty charges against one of their employees. Danbury Mayor, Mark Boughton, adopted his dog, Ellie from Tails of Courage and had this to say:

As someone who is a strong dog lover, we are happy to have a resolution, and our new animal shelter facility will be able to service more dogs and do it in a way that is more inviting to people who adopt them.

Late in 2017, city health inspectors visited Tails of Courage and were disturbed by the cramped quarters, excess feces, and animals that looked neglected. The shelter manager was charged with two counts of animal cruelty.

According to the shelter's owner, Kristan Exner, the non-profit organization has found a much larger location for the shelter on a 200-acre sight in Wolcott. If you're on the fence about adopting a dog from a shelter, watch this video.
