CT's Most Funded Kickstarter Is a Giant Dragon Castle That Raised

Westport-based game terrain maker Stefan Pokorny hoped to raise $100,000 on Kickstarter to roll out a new series of tabletop dungeons for the Dungeons & Dragons game. He ended up raising over $3 million.

Pokorny's company, Dwarven Forge, makes dungeons for the enduringly popular Dungeons and Dragons role-playing game. While the game can be played simply on a large piece of gridded paper, dungeon dioramas enhance the experience and are highly coveted by hardcore gamers. Dwarven Forge makes game sets such as dungeons, caverns, medieval buildings, and pieces that can incorporate popular sci-fi themes.

Dwarven Forge has used the crowd-sourcing website Kickstarter before, and brought their latest project, Dungeon of Doom, to their fans before bringing it into production last Fall. They planned to use the support to make the steel molds required to produce the tiny and detailed pieces. People were so impressed with the set's intricate details and modular flexibility, that the project raised over $3 million in pledges in just 23 days.

A new survey from Business.org ranked each state's most funded Kickstarter project. Tabletop games and technology projects were the most funded, each coming in at 24% of the survey.
