Rookie Cop in CT Has Car + Credit Card Stolen, Thief Hits Up Taco Bell

This sure is one hell of a bad day. Here's what I'm talking about.

Major rule of life. Lock the doors of your vehicle and don't leave valuables like cash and credit cards in your vehicle. The police tell you that all of the time. That said, one local rookie officer seems to have forgotten this piece of information.

The Republican-American is passing on this tale of a hard lesson to learn. They are reporting a story about  21-year-old Waterbury resident Derrick Johnson who was charged this week with multiple offenses, including burglary, second-degree larceny and identity theft.

The embarrassing part of this story is who the victim is. Police say Johnson stole a rookie officer's car and then used the man's credit cards buy food at Taco Bell and to shop at Walmart.

Police say on the night of the officer's police academy graduation, Jan. 23, Johnson stole the vehicle that was parked in a Waterbury parking garage. According to investigators, Johnson bought items from Walmart and Taco Bell with the credit cards before leaving the car in a private lot. Police later recovered the car. Johnson was reportedly identified via surveillance footage and is being held on a $25,000 bond. His hearing is scheduled for this month.

Tough lesson to learn for this rookie cop who you have to believe is going to get a ton of ribbing over this brain fart.
