Wallethub considered many factors when conducting their most recent nationwide public school study. Thirty-three metrics were examined including performance, funding, safety, class size and instructor credentials. The study was done over all 50 states plus the District of Columbia, Connecticut came in number 2 in the nation, just behind Massachusetts.

The Top 10 States were:

1- Massachusetts

2 - Connecticut

3 - New Jersey

4 - Virginia

5 - Vermont

6 - New Hampshire

7 - Minnesota

8 - Wisconsin

9 - Delaware

10 - Maryland

New York was ranked 12 in the nation and New Mexico was dead last at 51.

Connecticut's highest ratings were in statewide school closure due to COVID-19 (No. 1), Median ACT score (No. 1), reading test scores (No. 3) and pupil-teacher ratio (No. 6). The Nutmeg State's poorest performance came in the categories of bullying incidence rate (No. 20) and percentage of threatened/injured high school students (No. 26).

Connecticut has its problems like potholes, taxes, cold weather and Governor Ned "The Head" Lamont, but it seems, even in a COVID-19 reality, the schools are top notch. This does not surprise me in the least, as I've had the great privilege of getting to know and work with the teachers and administrators who've cared for the education of my children.

I have not had one experience with an teacher, administrator or staff member that gave me pause as to whether my kids were in the right place with the right people. I believe we have another reason to be proud of the beautiful place we live.

P.S. Maybe you are considering moving down south for the weather, tax purposes or the ability to buy firearms and liquor in the same drive-thru. If so, here is how your future home did in the study:

22 - Florida  (Florida you say?)

30 - North Carolina

34 - Georgia

43 - South Carolina
