On Saturday, the Miami Hurricanes football program entered the day unranked, but that would change after a dominant performance against the Aggies of Texas A&M.

The Canes beat the Aggies 48-33 on Saturday pushing the squad to 2-0 on the year and earning them a #22 ranking in the AP Top 25. According to Yahoo, this is the first time Miami has had a Top 25 ranking since September of last year ('22).

The Hurricanes could not have earned the win without the performance of the quarterback Tyler Van Dyke. Van Dyke threw for an astounding 374 yards and 5 touchdowns while completing 70% of his passes.

Not too bad for a kid from Connecticut. That's right Van Dyke grew up in Connecticut, playing his high school football at the Suffield Academy in Glastonbury. His play at Suffield was more than enough to grab the attention of recruiters, racking up a grand total of 4,643 yards passing and 39 TD's as QB1 according to Max Preps.

It's great to see Connecticut athletes playing at the highest levels and achieving. I also think college football is more exciting when teams like the Hurricanes are in the national conversation. Don't get that confused, I'm not a Canes fan but them being good just makes sense to my brain and I think most people from my era would agree.

I was watching Van Dyke play against the Aggies on Saturday and I was impressed and then the announcer mentioned he was from Connecticut and I said, "Like hell he is!" Well, I did my research and learned like hell he was. Good for Tyler and the entire Van Dyke clan.

This is Van Dyke's personal statement from the NCSA college recruiting page when he was still in high school:

"My goal is to help lead a college football program on and off the field from the QB position. To help achieve this goal, my family and I decided to have me enroll at Suffield Academy and repeat my freshman year of high school. I am now in the class of 2020. The outstanding teachers, coaches, and athletic program at Suffield Academy along with the school's highly rated leadership program and academics will position me well.  In addition, my dedication to the game, willingness to be coached and participation in the 2016 US Army National Combine and 2015 Diamond All American Game will help me achieve my goal."

It looks like he has already met many of those goals and got the tools to get there from folks in CT. He must be tough as hell because he took this shot and just kept on.

P.S. The Hurricanes next game is Thursday September 14th against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats so I'm gonna go ahead and just penicil them in for a 3-0 start.
