Gov. Lamont took to twitter on Tuesday afternoon (January 12) to announce the authorization of deployment was requested of him by the United State National Guard in a move to "aid and facilitate the peaceful transition of presidential power" ahead of Biden's inauguration date on Wednesday, January 20.

“The State of Connecticut stands ready to help ensure the peaceful transition of power and protect our democracy,” Gov. Lamont said in the formal announcement. “May God bless our brave men and women in uniform, and the United States of America.”

The Governor's office reports that the group of Connecticut men and women headed to the nation's capitol include the state's National Guard Military Police and two dog teams specializing in explosive detection and patrol. Also, C-130H aircraft and associated crews from Connecticut's Air Guard have been placed on alert status, as they are reportedly ready and able to transport National Guardsmen to anywhere in the country if need be.

Gov. Lamont also was sure to note that this deployment of the National Guard will not in any way affect Connecticut's ongoing battle against the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
