Margot Martello is being called “the luckiest woman in Connecticut,” because it appears as though she escaped certain death. Looking at the picture, it is certainly amazing that the 37-year-old Ellington resident is still with us.

According to, Martello’s 2017 Subaru Outback slammed into the back of a tractor trailer that was parked on the side of I-84. The impact wedged her vehicle under the truck and missed coming into contact with her head by mere inches.

Connecticut State Police report that the assistant principal of Tolland High School was traveling eastbound on Interstate 84 between exits 64-65 and 66 at 8:30am on Friday morning. It is unclear why she veered off into the parked truck. The road was clear although wet with melting snow. The highway was shut down for Life Star helicopter to airlift Martello to Hartford Hospital. She is reported to be “doing ok” and only sustained a minor injury. Antwan Walters of Woodbury, New Jersey, the driver of the truck was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation. If you have any information, please call Trooper Kevin M. Miller at the the Troop C barracks in Tolland at 860-870-3200.
