Local police are looking for potential witnesses after a motor vehicle crash in Newtown left one man with serious injuries on Friday (Sept. 27).

According to the Newtown Police Department, officers, along with first responders from Sandy Hook Fire and Rescue, arrived on the scene around 5:40 PM at the intersection of Route 34 (Berkshire Road) and Sherman Street.

Police say the accident happened when 42-year-old Joseph Romero Jr. of Monroe was riding his 2002 Harley-Davidson in the eastbound lane of Route 34. As he reached the aforementioned intersection, a 17-year-old juvenile female from Sandy Hook pulled out of Sherman St. in a 2015 Honda Civic, colliding with Romero's motorcycle.

The Newtown man was then reportedly thrown from the motorcycle, sustaining what police describe as serious injuries as a result. Romeo was transported to Danbury Hospital via Newtown Ambulance and the female operator was not injured.

As the Newtown Police Department's Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit responded is investigating this accident, they ask that anyone who may have witnessed the crash contact the NPD immediately at 203-426-5841
