Craig Morgan's latest performance of his new song "The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost" brought Kelly Clarkson to tears and shook up Blake Shelton. The singer appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show this week and delivered an emotional acoustic performance of the ballad.

"The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost" was inspired by the death of Morgan's 19-year-old son, Jerry, in July of 2016. He anxiously introduced it to fans and the music community at the Grand Ole Opry earlier this year, and every subsequent performance has felt equally as personal and powerful, if not painful.

One senses a sigh of relief as Morgan finishes this performance on Clarkson's new television talk show. It's all about the ending.

The song took on a life of its own after Morgan's friend Shelton tweeted it to his followers and made it a personal mission to have it top the iTunes sales chart. During his interview with Clarkson, Morgan recalls texting it to Shelton soon after recording it and not hearing back. He figured the song just hit too close to home since the "God's Country" singer lost a brother when he was growing up in Oklahoma.

"I lost my son in a drowning accident three years ago and I tell some of my friends for them, that happened three years ago," Morgan shares. "For me, it was yesterday."

One night Morgan woke up with the idea for this song and forced himself to get out of bed and write it. Four hours later, he had something worthy of becoming his next radio single — a song that ultimately led to his new record deal with Broken Bow Records.
