We talk a lot about Connecticut's favorites. Different things people around the state love. What's popular and what positivity keeps our state on the map. It's pretty easy to talk bad about this state when you're from somewhere else. It's expensive and there isn't much here if you're an out-of-towner. When I went to college in Rhode Island, I would always ask people not from here what they thought of Connecticut when they were growing up. So many people said, "a state that has nothing in it besides casinos and traffic."

I feel like something that will always put us on the map is our food scene. We are pretty popular when it comes to some of the iconic things we create in our small state. We have some very good restaurants and that's something I'll never take for granted. We also have great bagels and amazing pizza and those are two things that are always a must.

The Daily Meal put out a list of the Best Casual Restaurants around the U.S. so I wanted to take a look and see what Connecticut's was. I'm passionate about our restaurants here and will always be thankful for the limitless options we have. The choice of casual restaurant kind of surprised me, but at the same time did not.

I don't know why I was expecting something other than pizza. It's what we're known for and most of the time, that's the type of food that lands on these lists for us. I did write an article recently, though, about how Connecticut sat toward the bottom of the Top 100 Pizza Spots in the U.S. list. I'm still pretty surprised about it.

Well on this list, the best casual restaurant in Connecticut is one that we're famous for. Frank Pepe's Pizzeria Napoletana in New Haven. The blurb on the site talks about the famous clam pie and they explain how they think you should get it. I would agree that Frank Pepe's is a great casual spot to go. There's nothing fancy about it, but you know you'll at least get some damn good food.

If you had to choose a restaurant, what would it be?
