Connecticut Towns That Hold the Greatest Risk of Contracting Lyme Disease

Connecticut sits among the top ten states with the most cases of Lyme disease.

According to an article at msn.com, Connecticut was the first state to have documented cases of Lyme disease and currently ranks number 8 in the country when it comes to cases of the disease.

Recently a study appeared on wfsb.com that assessed the areas in Connecticut with the greatest risk of Lyme disease. The greatest risks were in Tolland County, central and western portions of Windham County (Hampton, Ashford, Woodstock, and Scotland), northern New London County (Lebanon, Franklin, Griswold, and Voluntown), and central Middlesex County (Durham, Haddam, and East Haddam).

Other areas of Connecticut with high incidences of Lyme disease are sections of Litchfield County (Caanan, Cornwall, and Kent) along with northern sections of New Haven County. (Wolcott, Meriden, and Cheshire)

Don't take any chances, check your kids for ticks every day over the summer and always have a can of insect repellent that contains DEET nearby for outside play. Early signs and symptoms include flu-like symptoms and an expanding red rash that can appear anytime between 2 to 32 days after a tick bite.
