When I think about a Police Department's Special Operations Unit, I picture a group of highly trained officers going into a sketchy situation to take out a group of bad people. Has the way that people are driving around Connecticut lately turned a few aggressive drivers into criminals? One of our State Police Troops has announced a Special Operation plan to deter aggressive driving on two of the busiest roads in our state.

According to Connecticut State Police - Troop G in Bridgeport, Troop G has initiated a Special Operations plan to deter aggressive drivers on both 95 and the Merritt Parkway. Specifically, Troopers are out targeting those who speed, drive recklessly, follow too closely, fail to maintain their lane, or use a handheld electronic device while driving. In addition, Troop G has also initiated the special operations plan to address commercial motor vehicle violations, including the use of the restricted left lane. How many times has a tractor trailer tailgated you in Westport? And then blown by you in the left lane doing 75? Yes, those.

It really has gone bad on the highways in Fairfield County. If by some miracle either road is not solidly backed up from Bridgeport to Stamford, drivers are weaving and swerving around you in their supercars at 90-100 MPH. I guess the stress of driving through Manhattan and Port Chester doesn't leave some when they see the green sign welcoming you to Greenwich.

It will be interesting to see the enforcement statistics if Troop G releases them, it should be like fish in a barrel. Connecticut State Police - Troop A - Southbury, you getting the band together to rock out on I-84 next?
