Connecticut Retains All Its Billionaires Including One From Danbury
Well, thank God for this news — I sure didn't want to think anyone was headed for the poor house! Phew. I, for one, will sleep better tonight with this tidbit of info about the mega-wealthy in Connecticut.
In a story from courant.com, it appears that Connecticut is holding on to all of the state's billionaires. According to forbes.com, and their newest list of the World's billionaires, Connecticut presently has 17 billionaire residents, which happens to be the same exact number as 2017.
Chances are, you're not rubbing elbows with these people, unless you live on the infamous Gold Coast of our state. That's because almost all of the billionaires live in Greenwich, and most are in the hedge fund business.
The state's wealthiest resident is Ray Dalio of Greenwich, who founded Westport based hedge fund Bridgewater Associates.
Another Greenwich resident on the list who clocks in as Connecticut's second wealthiest according to Forbes is Steve Cohen.
Giving some props to our neck of the woods. Not all the billionaires are from down county. Danbury resident, Peter Buck, the co-founder of the Subway Sandwich shop chain, which started in Bridgeport, has a net worth of $2.4 billion, and at 87, is the oldest billionaire on the list.
The rest of the list includes a bunch more hedge fund managers and not surprisingly WWE CEO, Vince McMahon is still there too.
