This is such an awful story to report. You have probably never thought that filling your vehicle up with gasoline could end your life. However, being on the shoulder of a major highway is a very dangerous place to be, especially at night.

A Connecticut man was killed this past weekend when he stopped to refuel his truck on one of our major highways.

NBCConnecticut.com reports that at about 1:00 am on Saturday morning, 36-year-old Timothy Sanderson of East Windsor, CT was traveling northbound on I-91. He pulled over onto the right shoulder to put fuel into his Ford F-350. As he was gassing up his vehicle, a Nissan Altima, also traveling north, struck him and then hit the open door of his truck.

Sanderson was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. No charges have been filed, however the accident is still being investigated. The driver that allegedly struck Sanderson was uninjured.
