As the debate continues about how to send students back to school safely, the CIAC just announced that High School sports will be back when the fall semester starts.

There's been so much back and forth about how schools are going to re-open come September, but the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) put all rumors to rest on Thursday by unveiling their plan to bring back High School Sports for the fall.

In an official statement about the fall sports season, the CIAC explained their processes in creating the plan. "The plan was developed in consultation with the Connecticut State Medical Society Sports Medicine Committee, state officials, medical professionals, athletic trainers, superintendents, principals, athletics directors and coaches. Everyone involved in the development of the plan recognizes that it must remain fluid, and that it will be in a perpetual state of evaluation as COVID data and health metrics become available."

The proposed plan would mean an extended pre-season for added conditioning, followed by a shortened regular season. End of season tournaments will be evaluated for different options based on regions or leagues, and will not follow the traditional CIAC Fall State Championship formats.

Over the next few weeks, the CIAC will appoint sport-specific committees that will meet to provide further detail on individual sport mitigating strategies. For example, volleyball will not be switching sides after each set, and teams will not be meeting in locker rooms at halftime. There will also be a limit of 15 players per practice that coaches can work with at any given time during the extended pre-season.

Here's a look at how the fall season for each sport will be handled under this plan:
