Now normally, when a list like this drops and my hometown of Danbury gets snubbed, I spiral into a familiar rant — something about how we’re completely ignored by the rest of the state and the media that covers it. But this time? No complaints. I’m happy to tip my cap.

The spotlight went to Captain Scott’s Lobster Dock in New London, located at 80 Hamilton Street. MSN/24/7 Tempo's blurb was a bit odd and vague: “Captain Scott’s Lobster Dock in New London, Connecticut Munchies in New Haven, Connecticut.” That’s the whole thing. Just two restaurant names, separated by a comma, tossed into a sentence like a confused robot was generating foodie picks.

But hey — credit where it’s due. Congrats to Captain Scott’s. I love New London, and I’ve long believed it’s one of the most underrated cities in the state. No place is perfect, but New London has great food, a thriving arts scene, and, in my opinion, the best beach in Connecticut: Ocean Beach Park.

So, take your bow and sniff the roses, New London — you deserve more than you usually get.

P.S. I figured it out. They picked two spots per state. For Connecticut, it was Captain Scott’s in New London and Munchies in New Haven. Still, maybe a little context next time, MSN? You can’t just toss commas around and hope we fill in the blanks. And why two? Give me one, give me five, give me ten — but two? What is this, Vince Vaughn in Tires?

Vince: “Shane, what’s your interest in Japanese toys on a scale of 2 to 4?” Exactly.

The recreation center on Mohegan Road in Shelton, CT is all fun and games now but was once the site of some serious business. Shelton is not the only town in CT with a frightening Cold War past, Ansonia and Fairfield boast similar remains.
