Holiday Travel Just Got Easier This Weekend On Metro-North
Everyone's traveling somewhere this Thanksgiving Weekend.
Many people will be heading into New York City to check out the parade or do some shopping. Well, Metro-North just made your day with extra service all weekend long. Starting Wednesday afternoon, they will be adding extra trains and cars to accommodate Holiday travelers.
According to patch.com, here's what you can expect:
On Wednesday, the busiest day of the year for Metro North, there will be 18 early getaway trains that depart Grand Central during the mid‐day. The extra service includes three additional trains on the Harlem Line between 2:15 p.m. and 3:34 p.m., five extra trains on the Hudson Line between 1:38 p.m. and 4:11 p.m., and 10 extra trains on the New Haven Line between 12:58 p.m. and 4 p.m.
On Thanksgiving Day, if you're heading in to the city to catch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Metro‐North will provide additional inbound morning service. There is also expanded outbound service starting in the late morning and continuing through mid‐afternoon. Metro-North will also be adding extra trains in the evening for customers returning to New York City after their Thanksgiving feasts.
On Black Friday, Metro‐North will operate on a Saturday schedule with additional inbound service in the morning and outbound service in the afternoon to accommodate the Friday workers and of course Black Friday shoppers.
On Saturday and Sunday, Metro‐North will have extra trains and additional cars on existing trains. Service on Saturday, Nov. 25 features upper Hudson and outer New Haven Line Shoppers' Special service.
There will be some Holiday Special deals all weekend — Off-peak fares will be in effect on Thanksgiving Day, and continue through Sunday, Nov. 26. There will also be free parking at many of the stations.
There's also the special "Family Fare", which costs $1 per ticket for up to four children, age 5 to 11, when they are raveling with a fire-paying adult.
