You know the old line - " when I was your age" - that we toss out to kids frequently. Well here's a real step back into time, that will totally show them how hard life can be.

I certainly grew up with my parents recounting tales of woe during their childhood and how much easier "kids today" had it. I think that's one for the ages, and it happens in pretty much every household. But this Summer, children from our area can really take a hugs step back in time to find out how the other half lived.

The Bethel Historical Society asks the question:

What was it like to be a kid in 18th century Colonial Bethel?

They are offering a chance for your kids to find out in 2017 what it was like to live in the 1700s, with the Colonial Times Kids Summer Camp. The release found on the website bethelhistoriacalsociety.com says that camp goers will travel back in time to find out what games colonial children would have played, what would it be like to make your own toys and books, prepare a meal as a colonial family and more.

Kids will travel back in time to the 1700s to experience craft projects, butter and biscuit making,  a visit inside Plumtrees Schoolhouse to learn what school was like, a visit to Holbrook Farm, a visit to Putnam Park and much more.

The Colonial Times Kids Summer Camp runs 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 21 through Aug. 25 with activities in the field behind Plumtrees School House (corner of Plumtrees & Taylor). The Bethel Historical Society says that in case of rain the camp will be indoors at the 2nd Meeting House 40 Main Street in Bethel.

I can't wait for the kids to come from camp, look at you and say, "Mom, Dad, you don't know how easy you have it!"

The registration form is available at bethelhistoricalsociety.com and payment is due by Aug. 14. Space is limited and only a few spaces remain, so register now. Call Mary at 203 730-2726 for information.
