CIAC Releases COVID Guidance For Winter Sports
If you have a son or daughter that plays a High School winter sport, the CIAC has just released their guidance for the upcoming 2022 winter sports season.
With more and more people being fully vaccinated and schools back to in person learning, the CIAC, (Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference) has released brand new guidance for the upcoming winter High School sports seasons.
Since the return of sports at schools all over Connecticut, the CIAC has had to alter its sports schedules, eliminate games, change playoff and championship game formats and had put a mask mandate in place for athletes in all sports. This week, that all changed, or at least will change very soon.
Here's some of the new guidance just issued by the CIAC that will go into effect right after the winter break. Now even though this new guidance was released to cover every High School in the state, the CIAC is leaving some of the new rules up to the individual school districts based on the level of COVID-19 outbreaks in their particular area.
- Fully vaccinated athletes will no longer be required to wear a mask during competition.
- Teams will now play a full schedule including multi-team events and interstate competition.
- Seasons will once again conclude with state championship games.
- Athletes that are fully vaccinated do not have to quarantine if they have come in close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19 as long as they remain asymptomatic.

All the guidelines issued go into effect on Monday, November 29, and are in coordination with what the Connecticut Department Of Public Health has also just released for all schools in the state of Connecticut.
