What appears to have been a large bobcat was spotted in the backyard of a Fairfield home.

According to the Fairfield Police Department, a 12-year-old boy was approached by a bobcat in the backyard of his residence in the Brett Road area in the town of Fairfield.

The encounter took place on the morning of December 16 and thankfully the boy wasn't seriously injured. He suffered a minor scratch to a finger and a torn shirt. The bobcat then hightailed it into the woods.

According to Fairfield Police Animal Control, the animal didn't exhibit typical bobcat behavior. Bobcats usually don't let humans get that close because they are normally very evasive.

According to desertusa.com, if you happen to encounter a bobcat, deliberately back away slowly. DO NOT RUN because it could cause the bobcat to chase after you. If you're able, spray it with water and/or make as much noise as possible.
