Bethel Police Say Crooks Use Signal Boosters to Steal Locked Cars

One of the most frustrating things to happen to car owners, is their vehicle being stolen. According to Bethel Police, "vehicles have been broken into and stolen frequently over the past few years". Now more than ever, we have to protect ourselves and property from thieves.

The first and most important tip to remember is, ALWAYS lock your car and remove any valuables that can be seen by the naked eye. This will help to prevent any "smash-and-grab" break-ins. In light of recent events and the changing times, more must be added to the tips list.

A great recommendation given by Bethel Police to prohibit thieves from stealing your car, is to store your car keys properly at home. This is now a necessary step in protecting your car because thieves have adapted and "are now using signal boosters to steal locked vehicles while the key fobs are INSIDE residences".

A great way to prevent this from happening is to use Faraday boxes and pouches, as pictured below. They help to block the signal of boosters.

If you can't get your hands on one quick enough, use tin foil for the time being. Simply wrap up your keys in foil and try using them to lock and unlock your car. If your keys don't work after doing this, then you may just have successfully blocked that signal.

If that fails and your key signal still works, place your keys as far away from your car as possible.
