Dear Northern Lights Haters, this is for you.

No, The Northern Lights Aren't Like a  Hudson Valley Snow Storm!

On Thursday night October 10th, 2024, social media was buzzing. The Northern Lights had returned to the Hudson Valley.

Photos were shared on Facebook timelines and Instagram stories, bursting with bright purples and pinks. There were professional shots sprinkled with gorgeous greens and blues scattering the sky.

It truly was something to see!

However, then those Northern Lights haters started chiming in with comments like "okay we get it!" or  "These are worse than snow pictures" and "Northern Lights pictures have taken over 'Bread and Milk' posts."

Okay Debbie Downer, thanks for raining on our parade! The Northern Lights are way more rare than your typical run-of-the-mill Hudson Valley snowstorm. Why hate on it so much? Why can't we be excited about it?

Are you telling me THIS is the same as a snow photo?

PLEASE. Be for real.  We don't get to see this all the time. Many people think they have to go to Iceland to see such a sight!

Also, we're fighting about so much lately on social media can't we lighten it up with beautiful photos of nature without being judged?

Let us live!

When Will the Northern Lights Return Over The Hudson Valley?

For the record, this latest Northern Light sighting isn't the first time they've been seen in New York.

The Northern Lights have been around our region for a while; we just didn't necessarily know they were there. As we've learned, you can't see them with the naked eye (though if you look close enough, you can tell there's a different tint to the sky).

How will you know when the Northern Lights will return to the region? Well, cdn.softservenew.com is an excellent source for all your Aurora forecasts for future sightings. It takes some time to understand the terms and what they mean, but it's very helpful when it comes to timing and where you can see the northern lights.
