Two Busted After Trying to Purchase $70K Corvette in Connecticut

I guess it's time for Plymouth/Terryville to be in the Connecticut spotlight, huh?

We've all been closely following the escapades of Buddy the Beefalo over the past few weeks, as the 1,200 lb. animal continues to elude capture in the area. But, according to a press release, we just received from the Plymouth Police Department, two alleged identity thieves weren't as lucky as Buddy the Beefalo, they got caught and were placed under arrest after an incident that involved Terryville Chevrolet.

Yesterday, Thursday September 10, 2020, at 11:30AM, Plymouth Police Officers started an investigation after receiving a complaint that a man was attempting to purchase a $70,000 Corvette from Terryville Chevrolet, 302 Main St, via the internet, with what appeared to be forged documents. During their investigation, Plymouth Officers determined that the identity theft victim was out of Delaware, and their name and information was being used to try to purchase the vehicle.

A capture operation was set up involving the Plymouth Police and the Connecticut State Police Statewide Narcotics Task Force, and after the suspect entered the dealership, he and his alleged accomplice were both arrested without incident.

Police have charged Tavon Moyer, 38, of West Ave in Stratford, with 1st Degree Criminal Attempt To Commit Larceny, and Identy Theft and Forgery. Moyer is being held on a $200,000 bond, and was arraigned this morning in New Britain Superior Court.

Police have also charged Akil Jones, 38, of Dover Street in Bridgeport, with 1st Degree Conspiracy To Commit Larceny, was held on a $25,000 Bond, and will appear in New Britain Superior Court on 10-29-2020.
