All of I-84 in the Hudson Valley to get New Exit Numbers
Officials announced major changes that will impact everyone who drives on Interstate 84 in the Hudson Valley.
The New York State Department of Transportation announced the numeric exit signs on I-84 will be changed to mileage-based exit numbers, according to the Orange County Chamber of Commerce.
The changes impact the entire highway in the Hudson Valley, from the Pennsylvania state line in Orange County to Dutchess County and the Connecticut state line in Putnam County.
"The new exit numbers will be based on distance from the Pennsylvania state line to the interchange rather than consecutively numbered," New York State Department of Transportation Regional Director Lance MacMillan wrote in a letter to stakeholders that the Orange County Chamber of Commerce posted to Facebook.
For example, the I-84 exit for the New York State Thruway, which is currently Exit 7, will be renamed Exit 36, because the I-87 interchange is 36 miles east of the Pennsylvania state line, officials say.
The Orange County Chamber of Commerce believes the change is to conform to the mileage-based exit system of I-84 in Pennsylvania,
Prep work on the project is underway. Installation of new signs is expected to begin in the spring of 2019 and be completed by the end of the 2019 construction season, according to the DOT.
