What I do here at the radio station is sound design-lite, I produce commercials for airing, all the way from recording the voice, placing sound effects, and finding a nice musical bed to play underneath. I'm nowhere near the skills of Danbury native Peter Hylenski, who just won a Tony Award Sunday night for his work on Broadway's Moulin Rouge! The Musical.

Hylenski won the Tony Award for Best Sound Design of a Musical at the 74th Annual Tony Awards, which were held this past Sunday night. This was the 8th time that Hylenski had been nominated for a Tony, and he did it this year.

Hylenski has a serious resume. Previously he worked, and was nominated for a Tony, on After Midnight, Beetlejuice, King Kong, Motown: the Musical, Once on This Island, Rock of Ages, and The Scottsboro Boys. Hylenski has also worked on Dave Chappelle on Broadway, Manilow Broadway, Regina Spektor: Live on Broadway, and Criss Angel Raw - The Mindfreak Unplugged.

Hylenski's work on Moulin Rouge! The Musical won over the efforts of fellow nominees Jonathon Deans for Jagged Little Pill, and Nevin Steinberg for Tina: The Tina Turner Musical.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical cleaned up at this years Tony Awards on Sunday, also winning for Best Orchestration, Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Best Costume Design in a Musical, Best Scenic Design in a Musical, Best Choreography, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Performance of a Featured Actor in a Musical, Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical, and finally, Best Musical.

We join former Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton, who took to his social media accounts to offer congratulations to Hylenski, one of his former students at Danbury High School.
