5 Danbury Area Towns Eager to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend 2021
We're almost back, baby! Residents of Danbury, New Milford, Bethel, Brookfield, and Newtown can't wait to get out and celebrate the upcoming Memorial Day weekend with family and friends.
In most of the greater Danbury area towns, residents are looking forward to coming out of hiding to enjoy Memorial Day parades, barbecues, and special ceremonies that will honor and mourn the military personnel who have died defending our great nation. Memorial Day Weekend runs from Saturday, May 29 through Monday, May 31. The City of Danbury has canceled its Memorial Day parade this year.
BETHEL - According to the New Haven Register, even though Bethel has canceled the town's Memorial Day Parade, the Bethel Patriotic Society will conduct a socially distanced ceremony on May 23 at the town hall where war veterans' names will be read. Both the Stony Hill and Bethel Volunteer Fire Departments will also hold their own ceremonies.
BROOKFIELD - The Memorial Day Parade will be held on Sunday, May 30, beginning at 2 PM and will launch from the high school and proceed to the Center School. If you would like to participate in the parade, please contact Marie Yapoujian at firstname.lastname@example.org or Fraij Yapoujian at email@example.com.
DANBURY - The city has decided to cancel their Memorial Day parade due to COVID-19, but in honor of this special day of remembrance, there will be a ceremony at the Rose Garden on Memorial Drive in Rogers Park on Monday, May 31 at 10 AM. A flyover is planned between 9:45 - 10 AM.
NEWTOWN - American Legion Post 202 is planning a reprise of last year's Memorial Day Program titled "Taps Along the Housatonic River", according to the Newtown Bee. The starting point will be at 10:10 AM at Eichler's Cove in Sandy Hook. Then, at 8 locations along the Housatonic River, a musician playing taps will accompany a photographer/videographer and Newtown dignitaries. A video to memorialize the event is also planned.
NEW MILFORD - Mayor Pete Bass has announced that there will be a Memorial Day parade in the streets surrounding the New Milford Town Green on Monday, May 31, from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
