It's that time of year for Connecticut Magazine's annual "Best Restaurants of 2020" and this year, Bethel has five restaurants that are being featured.

Every year, Connecticut Magazine asks their readers and local experts to pick some of the best places to eat in the state. There are tons of great restaurants in Connecticut, and to be chosen as one of the best is a pretty big deal.

The magazine just released its list, and I'm sure many of you didn't realize how many good restaurants are located in Bethel. Well, the experts noticed and the magazine featured five restaurants from Bethel, so if you haven't visited them yet, you might want to put that on your list of things to do in 2020.

Here are the restaurants that were recognized and the categories that each were honored in:

Best New Restaurant:

Céntrico Taqueria & Tequila Bar at 55 Stony Hill Road

Centrico is the sister restaurant of Lucas Local Oyster Bar in Newtown. Its unique concept explores Global Latin cuisine. Don't forget about the incredible selection of tequilas and their house-made Espolón margarita on tap.

Best American/New American Restaurant:

Taproot at 269 Greenwood Ave.

Taproot offers a chef driven menu with local ingredients in a down-to-earth setting. At Taproot, the focus is on farm-fresh ingredients and cuisine that is a mix of French, American and other styles

Best Mexican Restaurant:

Broken Symmetry at 5 Depot Plaza

Aside from incredible beer, this craft brewery prides themselves in serving grass fed beef as well as hormone free pork and chicken dishes, seasonally supporting local farms.

Best Middle Eastern / Mediterranean:

Lebanese Cuisine at 23 Stony Hill Road

It's a family owned business direct from Lebanon that enjoys sharing their culture of delicious foods. When you visit, you'll enjoy an experience right from their home country. They even have vegetarians options.

Best Pho / Ramen:

Sprouts Vietnamese Cuisine at 6-B Elizabeth Street

Sprouts brings the best of Vietnamese food to the area. Duong Morris, the owner and Chef, lived in Vietnam until she was 25 years old, where she cooked for family and friends. She eventually went to culinary school in Ho Chi Minh City and here she is. Her cooking style has been adapted to the American palette, but is still rooted in traditional Vietnamese.

So the next time you're looking to experience some of the best cuisine in the state, just head to Bethel -- it's a pleasant surprise.
